Recognizing When You Need a Change

Change is a scary word for most people, it is unreliable, inconsistent and most importantly, uncontrollable. Why would you want to embrace change when you are in a comfortable and safe place?

Change encourages growth.

If you find yourself in a place where you are no longer testing your limits, there’s a large chance you are avoiding change. Growth happens when there are goals for you to reach toward and it is hard to create new goals when you’ve ticked off everything on your list. Goals encourage change, and change encourages growth. As you achieve more goals and push your boundaries, you can look back and see that you are not the same person you were before. Your perspective, your knowledge, your ability to progress through life all changes as you learn more about yourself and your capabilities, but you have to be willing to try and learn.

Comfort doesn’t always equal happiness.

It is true that you can be content in your comfort zone, but being content is not the same as being happy. Happiness is found when you are jumping off cliffs or when you’re moving to a new place, not when you are sitting on your couch. As they say, you can’t have the highs without the lows and that applies to change. When you are comfortable and content, you don’t feel inspired. Yes, it may be relaxing for a little while, but at some point you will ask yourself “what is missing?”

You’re waiting for a “sign.”

If you have read this far, a part of you already knows that what you’re doing or where you are at this point in your life, is not where you are meant to stay. People are drawn to the idea of having someone tell them what needs to happen and struggle with taking the first step without a “sign.” Consider this your sign. Change is scary, but you will be better off for choosing to make the change rather than waiting in your comfort zone for someone to force change upon you.

Change pushes your limits and allows you to progress so do yourself a favour… Make the change.
